On Tuesday, 13th June 2023, the Hon. Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez officially launched CIFAL Banjul at the University of The Gambia campus in Kanifing. The CIFAL Banjul is an International Training Program for Authorities and Leaders situated at UTG. The project is supported by UNITAR.
CIFAL Banjul will primarily focus on issues related to the SDGs. For Hon. Gomez, The Gambia recognises the importance of the SDGs and has made significant efforts to integrate them into its National Development Plans and Policies.
Furthermore, the Minister went on to highlight some critical areas of focus for building capacity towards the SDG in The Gambian context. These include; Institutional Framework, Capacity Building, Governance and Institutional Strengthening, and Private Sector Development.
Finally, Hon. Gomez affirmed his Ministry’s support in promoting professional development training programmes initiated by CIFAL Banjul. Also, he thanked the UNITAR Director of the Division for People and Social Inclusion, UTG’s Vice Chancellor, Senior Management, Deans and HoDs, Faculty and Students, for their hard work.
