On the 7th of June, 2023, the National Assembly of The Gambia approved the 16 Million Dollar Loan from BADEA – Arab Bank for Economic Development for the construction of Phase II of The University of The Gambia Faraba Banta Campus.
This loan will cover the construction of the Chancery, Faculty of Law and School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The project aims to secure 1,600 additional study seats to meet the increasing demand for university education and to contribute to fulfilling the country’s future needs of specialized scientific cadres in various fields. It also aims to meet the need of the country and the labour market, support economic and social development and contribute to alleviating poverty in the country.
The Minister of Higher Education, Researcher, Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez is optimistic that the construction of UTG Faraba Banta Campus will provide state-of-the-art facilities and a comfortable environment for teaching and learning.
According to the Loan Agreement, the physical execution of the project is expected to commence in August 2023 for a period of 30 months and to be completed by February 2026 (including a defect liability period for a year). The furniture and equipment for the university will be supplied during the last year of the project implementation period.
