National TVET Committee Members review TVET Policy Master Plan

On Tuesday, 8th November 2022, the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Committee members reviewed the draft master plan of the National TVET Policy. This was during the 15th National TVET Committee meeting conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, at the Ministry’s premises in Bijilo.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary, Technical of MoHERST, Mucktarr M.Y Darboe chaired the meeting. In his opening remarks, he highlighted that the right tools and policies have been created by the Government of The Gambia and partners to ensure that TVET is promoted across the country. These include the development of the National TVET Policy and TVET Roadmap. Therefore, the 15th National TVET Committee meeting provided the opportunity for members to review the operational plan of the TVET Policy document which he advised needs to have timelines with deliverables.

The Masterplan supports the nine thematic areas of the TVET Policy Document. These include; Governance of TVET, Access to TVET, Relevance of TVET, Apprenticeship and On-the-Job Training, Digitalization of TVET, Funding of TVET, TVET Data Management, Integration into the Job Market, and TVET Attractiveness.

For her part, Fatou Janneh, Tertiary and Higher Education Officer and Focal Person of the MoHERST TVET Unit underscored the significance of having a masterplan that will guide the implementation of components identified in the National TVET Policy. She thanked the International Trade Centre (ITC) for the continuous support and committee members for their consistency and vital participation in the meetings.

Momodou Touray, Technical Adviser at the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) extended gratitude to MoHERST for coordinating the TVET Committee meetings while emphasizing that the committee should continue to work on coordinating all projects and programs in the TVET Sector.
