Our Hon Minister, Professor Pierre Gomez was very pleased to visit The Gambia Telecommunications & Multimedia Institute (GTMI).
At GTMI, Hon. Gomez met with the Director of the Institute Mr Malick Bah, the Head of Academics Affairs Mr Bora Ceesay, Registrar Mr Demba Sallah, Abdoulie Bass, and the Chairman Board of Trustees, among other senior management staff.
Significant discussions were made regarding upgrading GTMI to serve as a Centre of Excellence on Electronics and Technology. Thus, Hon. Prof Gomez tasked them to do a fully costed proposal to this effect.
In his remarks, the Director of GTMI expressed gratitude to our Honourable Minister for visiting the institution. According to him, this is the first time that an Honourable Minister of The Gambia is visiting GTMI. However, he raised a challenge faced by the institute. This includes the lack of enough capacity building for their staff to pursue higher education.
In this regard, Hon. Gomez affirmed that MoHERST will support GTMI and advised them to submit their training needs for consideration.
At MoHERST, we are committed to changing the development trajectory of the country and making sure Education is Fit for Purpose. Hands-On-Education and entrepreneurship are now the new norms in the MoHERST Higher Education Transformation agenda. GTMI will be supported to respond to the lacuna identified in the industry.
