On Day 3 of the nationwide tour, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), led by the Gender Focal Point, Ms. Kumba Jammeh, alongside a delegation of education stakeholders, continued engagements at the Julangel USET campus.

The team had already met some of the students attending the USET Student Week Celebrations in Mansakonko, where all USET Campus students were represented. The female students shared their experiences and highlighted key concerns, while expressing appreciation for ongoing efforts aimed at improving access, quality, and inclusivity in technical and vocational education.

On arrival at Julangel, the team toured the campus facilities and held meaningful with some of the staff on the ground. Amidst renovation works at the Centre, the team also visited  some of the workshops including the Information Technology lab.
Discussions with staff focused on the learning environment, academic needs, and the challenges they face in pursuing STEM and TVET programmes.

The visit provided an opportunity to better understand infrastructural and academic support gaps within the institution.

The Day 3 engagement reaffirmed MoHERST and COL’s commitment to strengthening USET campuses and ensuring that students, especially young women, are empowered to fully participate and succeed in science, engineering, and technology-related fields in The Gambia.
