Continuing from Julangel, the nationwide tour by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), progressed to the Kanilai USET campus on Day 3. Led by the Gender Focal Point, Ms. Kumba Jammeh, alongside a delegation of education stakeholders, the team engaged with 39 female students.

The session created a focused platform for the girls to interact, share experiences, and discuss both the opportunities and challenges they face in pursuing STEM and TVET programmes. Two USET alumni, currently excelling in their respective fields, also shared their journeys and professional experiences, inspiring the students to remain committed to their academic and career aspirations.

The engagement underscored the importance of peer support, mentorship, and the creation of safe spaces that empower girls to actively participate and thrive in technical and science-related fields. Students expressed strong interest in initiatives that promote skills development, innovation, and leadership among young women.

This interaction further reinforced MoHERST and COL’s commitment to strengthening female participation across USET campuses, while amplifying the voices of girls in shaping inclusive and equitable education pathways in The Gambia.

The delegation also encouraged the students to take advantage of emerging opportunities in digital skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation, emphasizing the critical role of young women in driving national development, and reaffirmed their commitment to bridging gender gaps in education and ensuring that no girl is left behind.
