On Day 4 of the nationwide tour, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), continued its STEM and TVET campaign in all ISET Campuses in the country. The team visited Ndemban Campus under the leadership of the Gender Focal Point, Ms. Kumba Jammeh.
At Ndemban, one-on-one discussion was held with the Ndemban Centre Manager, who briefed them on the day-to-day operations of the Centre. Chief among the achievements highlighted was the active participation of females in programmes such as Electrical Installation, Building Construction, and Auto Mechanics—fields traditionally perceived as male-dominated.
The delegation also assessed the learning environment and identified key challenges affecting female enrolment and participation in technical education.
In addition, the team visited the USET Brikama Campus, where they toured the Innovation Labs and other facilities. They engaged with students in various Engineering fields and gained firsthand insight into their training experiences and practical learning activities. The delegation also interacted with the winners of the UNDP/People of Japan Agricultural Innovation Competition, held earlier this year. The female students shared their experiences of the competition and offered words of encouragement and motivation to inspire other girls across the country.
Overall, the visit reaffirmed MoHERST and COL’s commitment to strengthening quality, accessibility, and inclusive participation of females in STEM and TVET at USET in particular, and across the tertiary and higher education sector in general.
