The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST), through its Gender Unit, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Science, Engineering and Technology (USET), where the COL Consultant for the MOHERST/USET pilot project was formally introduced. The courtesy call was held ahead of a two-day workshop scheduled to take place on March 23rd and 24th, 2026.
Discussions during the visit focused on securing institutional support for the ongoing consultancy, particularly the completion of online surveys by both staff and students. This forms a critical component of the needs assessment process that will guide the project’s implementation.
The assessment is expected to inform the development of a customized mentorship toolkit and an online platform designed to support students pursuing studies in STEM and TVET disciplines. The pilot project aims to increase female participation in these fields through structured mentorship initiatives.
USET management acknowledged the existing gender disparity in enrolment and underscored the importance of targeted interventions to enhance female representation in STEM and TVET programmes within the institution.
