The Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez, today presided over the official handover of equipment valued at GMD 2,095,500 to the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology Kanilai Campus.
Delivering his statement at the ceremony, Professor Gomez described the intervention as a significant milestone in government’s efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and expand access to quality, skills-based education across the country.
The support, provided through partnership with the International Trade Centre, will enhance training in key programme areas including electrical and solar installation, plumbing and pipefitting, and hairdressing. The Minister emphasized that the equipment will improve practical learning, promote competency-based training, and better prepare students for employment and entrepreneurship.
Professor Pierre Gomez reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to decentralising TVET and empowering young people, particularly in rural communities, with market-relevant skills that contribute to national development, job creation, and the transition to a green economy.
He commended ITC, as well as the MRC Holland Foundation and Brighter Futures, for their continued support to the development of the USET Kanilai Campus.
The Minister urged students to make effective use of the equipment and called on the University’s management and staff to ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of the resources to sustain high-quality training delivery.
