The Honorable Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), Professor Pierre Gomez, officially launched the Civil Service University (CSU) and unveiled its institutional logo today, 30 March 2026.

Professor Pierre Gomez described the occasion as a “defining milestone” in The Gambia’s ongoing higher education transformation and a major step toward strengthening public service delivery.

The establishment of CSU follows a landmark decision by the National Assembly on 25 July 2024, which approved key reforms transforming the Management Development Institute into the Civil Service University, Gambia College into the University of Education, and the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) into the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology.

The Minister noted that these reforms align with the national development agenda of His Excellency President Adama Barrow, which prioritises investment in education, skills development, and institutional capacity building as key pillars for sustainable national development.

He commended the CSU Governing Council and management for the rapid progress made, including the establishment of governance structures, development of academic programmes, and consolidation of a clear institutional identity.

Professor Gomez further emphasised that CSU will serve as a strategic national institution dedicated to producing a professional, ethical, and efficient public service capable of effectively translating government policies into measurable development outcomes.

He added that the university is expected to become a centre of excellence for leadership development, public administration, management training, and specialised capacity building for public sector professionals.

The Minister called on stakeholders to remain committed to expanding access to higher education, improving quality assurance, and strengthening research and innovation across the sector.

He concluded that the unveiling of the CSU logo represents more than an institutional identity, but a renewed commitment to building a resilient, efficient, and forward-looking public service for national development.
