The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), through its Permanent Secretary, Ms. Isatou Auber, together with her team from the newly established National Research and Innovation Fund, conducted a study tour to Kenya aimed at strengthening collaboration in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) and Research and Development (R&D).
The delegation, which included Professor. Momodou Sallah and Mr. Ebrima Sall, engaged with key Kenyan institutions to learn from Kenya’s STI and R&D trajectory and best practices in advancing a knowledge-driven economy.
Discussions centered on strengthening domestic financing mechanisms for research, establishing thematic research and innovation clusters for national impact, and advancing the adoption of research chairs and a Grand Challenges approach in addressing societal issues through science, technology, and innovation.
The engagements further underscored the urgency of breaking institutional silos, fostering stronger synergies, and building resilient innovation ecosystems through effective public–private partnerships and strengthened linkages between industry and academia.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration towards advancing knowledge generation and accelerating innovation-led economic transformation across Africa.
