
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (MOHERST) proudly celebrates the historic achievement of Dr. Satang Nabaneh, a distinguished graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of The Gambia (UTG), on her election as a Member of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).
Dr. Nabaneh, the first UTG Law Faculty graduate to earn a PhD in Law, secured 43 votes during elections held on 11th February 2026 at the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her election marks a landmark accomplishment for The Gambia and highlights her distinguished record as a legal scholar, human rights advocate, and tireless champion for the rights and welfare of children across Africa.
With extensive experience in child rights, gender equality, legal reform, and the African human rights system, Dr. Nabaneh brings a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise to the Committee. Her longstanding contributions to strengthening child protection frameworks and advancing legal standards have earned recognition at national, regional, and continental levels.
