The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), in collaboration with the World Bank, today hosted a high-level breakfast meeting with leaders from the private sector and development partners. The engagement brought together key stakeholders to explore opportunities for strengthening collaboration between education institutions and industry, with the aim of aligning skills development and innovation with labour market needs in The Gambia.

The meeting provided a strategic platform for dialogue on fostering partnerships, identifying skills gaps, supporting internships, apprenticeships, mentorship programmes, and promoting research collaboration and technology adoption. Participants discussed ways to ensure that graduates are equipped not only with academic qualifications but also with practical competencies that enable them to contribute effectively and competitively in the workforce.

MoHERST reaffirmed its commitment to advancing reforms that empower young Gambians through relevant skills training, practical education, and innovative approaches that support sustainable socio-economic development. The engagement reflects the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen education–industry linkages, promote innovation, and create meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the country’s youthful population.
