The Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez, has officially opened the validation workshop for the Students Revolving Loan Scheme (SRLS) Strategic Plan (2026–2030) and the SRLS Loan Policy at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre (SDKJICC).

The workshop marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the Students Revolving Loan Scheme, an initiative established to expand access to tertiary and higher education by providing financial support to eligible students.

In his keynote address, the Honourable Minister said the scheme reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that no qualified Gambian is denied access to higher education because of financial constraints. He noted that the initiative complements existing interventions such as the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund (THET Fund) and the National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF), while directly addressing students’ financing needs.

He urged stakeholders, particularly student representatives, to actively participate in the validation process and provide meaningful input to strengthen the Strategic Plan and Loan Policy. He also emphasized that the revolving nature of the scheme will ensure that future generations of students continue to benefit from the programme.

The Honourable Minister commended the SRLS Governing Board, management and staff, as well as partner institutions, for their commitment to developing the foundational documents. He further expressed appreciation to all stakeholders whose collaboration has advanced the establishment of the scheme.

Declaring the workshop officially open, he reaffirmed that investing in students is an investment in the country’s future, describing the Students Revolving Loan Scheme as a sustainable mechanism to improve access to tertiary and higher education across The Gambia.
