PRESS RELEASE
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) wishes to inform the general public that, effective 1st April 2026, the responsibility for the authentication of academic certificates and qualifications will be transferred to the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA).
This decision forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen quality assurance mechanisms and improve efficiency, credibility, and transparency in the verification of academic qualifications within The Gambia’s tertiary and higher education sector.
As the technical and regulatory body responsible for accreditation and quality assurance in higher education, NAQAA will now oversee all matters related to the authentication and verification of academic certificates and degrees.
Beginning 1st April 2026, all individuals, institutions, employers, and other stakeholders seeking authentication of academic certificates must apply directly to NAQAA. Applicants will be required to present their original certificates and transcripts, together with two (2) photocopies of each document.
The fee for this service is Five Hundred Dalasi (D500) per certificate.
The Ministry further informs the public that MoHERST will no longer process or authenticate academic certificates or documents from the effective date. All requests for such services should therefore be directed to NAQAA.
The Ministry appreciates the continued cooperation of the public and stakeholders as we work together to strengthen the integrity and efficiency of the higher education system in The Gambia.
