The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) has engaged the Registrars of public universities following their return from an experiential learning study tour in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Registrars from the University of The Gambia (UTG), University of Science, Engineering and Technology (USET), University of Education The Gambia (UEG), and Civil Service University (CSU) undertook the study tour from 19–30 January 2026 at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).

The visit aimed to strengthen their professional capacity in managing administrative and technical operations within their respective universities, especially as the country advances its tertiary and higher education transformation agenda.

During the engagement, the Registrars highlighted key lessons from the tour, including the importance of technology in university management to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability. They also emphasized the need for clear communication channels and the critical role registrars play in supporting research and innovation within universities.

The Registrars further called for continued support from the Ministry, university governing councils and senior management teams to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

They also expressed appreciation to MoHERST, their respective Governing Councils, and their Senior Management Teams for the opportunity to build their capacities, noting that Obafemi Awolowo University has shown willingness to support them with PhD opportunities to further enhance their professional development.

MoHERST reaffirmed that continuous capacity development remains a key pillar of the Ministry’s mandate and assured that such initiatives will continue to support staff across the tertiary and higher education sector.
