The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) today convened a Validation Workshop on the Amendments to the Tertiary and Higher Education Act 2016 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre (SDKJICC), Bijilo.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders from tertiary and higher education institutions, government ministries and agencies, development partners, students, civil society organisations, and the media to review and validate proposed amendments to the Act.

Officially opening the workshop, the Honourable Professor Pierre Gomez, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of updating the Act to strengthen governance, accountability, quality assurance, and academic excellence across the sector.

The proposed amendments seek to align the country's tertiary and higher education system with national development priorities and international best practices while enhancing institutional effectiveness and responsiveness.

The validation exercise forms part of MoHERST’s ongoing commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive, and globally competitive tertiary and higher education sector in The Gambia.
