
A delegation of female staff from Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez, on Monday, May 4, 2026, at his office in Kanifing.
The visit was symbolic, marking the first time the delegation had the opportunity to meet the Minister in The Gambia. They used the occasion to discuss ways of fostering partnerships and collaboration not only with the Ministry but also with universities across the country.
Minister Gomez applauded the initiative taken by the women to embark on a leisure break from the intensive university work environment, describing it as a valuable recreational and networking experience. He expressed hope that Gambian universities could learn from this approach by empowering female staff to engage in similar exchanges. According to him, such opportunities can stimulate innovation and creativity, while also enabling meaningful interaction with peers from other countries.
The Ministry’s Gender Focal Point, Ms. Kumba Jammeh, expressed sincere appreciation for the visit and encouraged continued collaboration between Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor and the Ministry.
The meeting was attended by the two Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and other key staff members.
