On Day 2 of the nationwide tour, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), led by the Gender Focal Point, Ms. Kumba Jammeh, alongside a delegation of education stakeholders, engaged with 28 female students drawn from different USET campuses at the Mansakonko Centre. The session created a focused platform for the girls to interact, share experiences, and discuss both the opportunities and challenges they face in pursuing STEM and TVET programmes.
The engagement highlighted the importance of peer support, mentorship, and creating safe spaces that encourage girls to actively participate and excel in technical and science-related fields. The students also expressed strong interest in initiatives that promote skills development, innovation, and leadership among young women.
This interaction further reinforced MoHERST and COL’s objective of strengthening female participation across USET campuses, while amplifying the voices of girls in shaping inclusive and equitable education pathways in The Gambia.
