The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) convened a meeting today with key stakeholders, including representatives from the University of The Gambia (UTG) Students’ Union, the Gambia Transport Union, Espace Motors and Discovery Tours. The session was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ms. Isatou Auber, along with MoHERST senior management, to address transportation challenges faced by students traveling to the Faraba Banta Campus.
The meeting aimed to identify practical solutions to the difficulties students encounter traveling to and from the campus.
During the session, Honorable Minister Professor Pierre Gomez highlighted the government’s commitment to improving access to higher education facilities. He noted that transportation remains a major concern affecting students’ ability to attend classes consistently and mentioned that the completion of student dormitories in the near future would help reduce the need for daily traveling.
The Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration between the ministry, private sector transport operators, and student representatives to develop sustainable solutions that ease traveling challenges.
Stakeholders shared their perspectives and proposed measures to improve transportation arrangements for students traveling to the Faraba campus.
This engagement is part of MoHERST’s ongoing efforts to ensure that students of the University of The Gambia have better access to adequate transportation facilities and a conducive learning environment.
