A delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) visited the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST).
The visit focused on the progress of ongoing initiatives under the Vulnerable Youth and Women Support Project (VYOWSP), including the provision of equipment to the newly established Madina Lamin Kanteh TVET Centre in CRR North and the rehabilitation of the Jullangel Skills Centre in URR. Discussions also explored future partnerships for establishing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hubs at both centres as part of the second phase of VYOWSP.
Key issues discussed included strengthening institutional capacity in medical and health sciences, expanding dentistry programmes, and integrating energy, climate change, and transport topics into current TVET curricula across USET regional centres.
The delegation also talked about the linkage between the construction of the UTG School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences at Faraba and the newly constructed Farato Teaching Hospital. The Farato Teaching Hospital will provide a modern clinical environment for medical students, while MoHERST plans to build additional dormitories and laboratories to support students’ practical learning. This development ensures that students can complete their clinical rotations in a well-equipped facility, complementing the hospital’s laboratories and avoiding the need for extended stays directly at Farato Hospital.
