The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) has unveiled the design for Lot 4 of the University of The Gambia’s Faraba Banta Campus, marking another major milestone in the country’s drive to expand access to quality higher education.

Speaking at the presentation, the Honourable Minister, Professor Pierre Gomez, described the project as part of President Adama Barrow’s vision to transform the University of The Gambia into a modern, integrated national university capable of driving research, innovation, and national development.

The Minister highlighted the progress made under the previous phases of the Faraba Banta Campus project, including the completion of academic schools, the Dr. Badara Joof Library, laboratories, the Chancery Building, the Faculty of Law, the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and the ongoing development of the School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.

He announced that Lot 4 will feature a 3,000-seat Congress Hall, a School of Graduate Studies, multipurpose sports facilities, and a Community Square with cafeterias. The project is being developed by MoHERST in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and development partners, in fulfilment of the directive of His Excellency President Adama Barrow.

Professor Gomez said the expansion reflects the government’s commitment to creating a world-class learning environment that promotes academic excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research to address national and global challenges.

He called on all stakeholders to support the successful implementation of the project with transparency, quality, and efficiency, describing the Faraba Banta Campus as one of the country’s most ambitious educational investments.

“Together, we are building more than a campus we are building the future of The Gambia. Faraba is the new academic Jerusalem. The light continues to shine from Faraba,” the Minister concluded.
