Day Three(3) of the Capacity Building Workshop on Empowering Girls in STEM and TVET Through Mentorship

The third day of the workshop brought together both mentors and mentees for an interactive engagement session aimed at fostering meaningful mentor-mentee relationships and strengthening the foundation of the mentorship programme.

The session commenced with introductions, during which mentors and mentees had the opportunity to get to know one another, share their backgrounds, interests, and expectations from the programme. This created a welcoming environment that encouraged open communication and mutual understanding.

Following the introductions, participants engaged in networking and interaction sessions that allowed mentors and mentees to build connections and establish rapport. These interactions provided an opportunity for participants to discuss academic interests, career aspirations, and personal development goals.

A key highlight of the day was the mentor selection process, where each mentee identified and selected a mentor based on shared interests, career goals, and areas of expertise. This process ensured that mentorship relationships were aligned with the aspirations and needs of the mentees.

After the matching exercise, mentees were divided into groups according to their selected mentors. The groups held focused discussions, providing a platform for mentors and mentees to engage in deeper conversations on academic growth, career pathways, personal development, and the opportunities and challenges faced by young women in STEM and TVET fields.

The group discussions enabled mentors to better understand the needs and aspirations of their mentees while allowing mentees to gain valuable insights, guidance, and encouragement from experienced professionals. The session also laid the groundwork for ongoing mentorship engagements and collaborative learning throughout the programme.

The day concluded with strengthened mentor-mentee relationships and a shared commitment to fostering a supportive network that empowers girls and young women to excel in STEM and TVET education and careers.
