
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (MoHERST), in partnership with the World Bank, convened a stakeholder meeting to review The Gambia’s engagement in the African Centers of Excellence (ACE) Program and outline upcoming initiatives.
The session featured opening remarks from MoHERST and a presentation by the World Bank on mission objectives, implementation lessons, sustainability, and program relevance. Stakeholders engaged in discussions on program design, proposal preparation, priority sectors, industry collaboration, university participation, and expected outcomes.
As part of the discussion, Phase 2 of the University of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (USET) initiative was highlighted on the agenda, particularly regarding the construction of new faculties in Computer Engineering, Architecture, and Design. This development is aimed at providing modern learning facilities, strengthening specialized training, and expanding research and innovation capacity across Gambian universities.
The meeting concluded with a review of timelines, roles, proposal requirements, and technical support, reaffirming MoHERST’s commitment to advancing higher education, research, and innovation in line with ACE Program objectives.
