
The University of The Gambia Students’ Union (UTGSU) has held a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), including the Permanent Secretary, Ms. Isatou Auber, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technical), Dr. Samba Sowe.
The meeting brought together student leadership and top ministry officials to discuss issues affecting students and the broader higher education sector, with a focus on improving coordination between the University of The Gambia and the Ministry.
During the engagement, Ms. Isatou Auber reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening administrative support and ensuring that student concerns are addressed through structured policy dialogue and timely intervention.
Dr. Samba Sowe emphasized the importance of technical collaboration between MoHERST and the University of The Gambia, noting that ongoing reforms in higher education require close engagement with student representatives to ensure effective implementation.
The UTGSU leadership presented key concerns affecting students and highlighted the need for continued collaboration with the Ministry to improve academic welfare, institutional efficiency, and student support systems.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintain regular dialogue between the Ministry and the Students’ Union as part of efforts to enhance the quality and responsiveness of higher education in The Gambia.
